2day is a Blogging Kind of Day

I was to start school wednesday, however, due to a major snow storm (which some of you may have experienced) it was canceled! (Is that really the correct spelling of that word? Someone tell me please!) Instead of school, I spend the day "Gramma sitting." (For those who don't remember, Gram is very unsteady on her feet & needs a companion.) It was nice to get to be with her even though she was a bit cranky this morning. She's been like that a lot lately, makes me wonder if she's about ready to give up living or if she's just frustrated w/ her - let's face it - mundane existence. Plus, staying w/ her also earns me a little $ which is quite rare for me now since I'm still unemployed!!! (That's a story for another day.)

While I was there I went out just b4 the sleet began to shovel the walk & dig around my car so I could brush it off. Good thing I did, it would've been much harder to afterward. When it was time to go home I started my car, then walked around the back of the house cuz I'd noticed that the outdoor wood furnace wasn't burning much so I took the liberty of throwing in a few logs. Then I went back to my car, brushed it off & headed home. All the while praying I'd make it up our unplowed driveway... God answered my prayers! I got to the top!! I was so glad. So then the first thing I did after bringing my stuff in was to fill our wood furnace. Mom was like, "Who are you?" My reply, "A woman in love?" then she responded, "Must be." (I'll fill you in on that in a bit.) When I finished that I walked down the drive to pick up the mail. After a quick shower, I started washing my coat... I usually don't wear it to fill the furnace, but I did since I had it on @ Gram's.

My beautiful Gramma!

Backing up a bit... after getting the mail I just began to pray, thanking God for all the blessings in my life. The weather... even though I'm sick of snow, it gave me a chance to serve others, my family, my boyfriend, & the luxuries I enjoy like warm showers & a washer/dryer. I am just so in love with Jesus!!! He has blessed me with so many things, I couldn't be more grateful (ok I could.) But I'm just so happy that I have a Creator & Savior who loves me, who gave His life for me, & has now chosen to share my heart with a good Christian man!

About that.... but 1st a reminder, I'm adopted... it'll make sense in a bit why I'm mentioning that.

My cousins (well 2nd cousins) from Arizona came out to Mass for Thanksgiving. The family connection is that my 1st cousin-once-removed Karla, is my Mom's cousin. Karla's mom is my mom's aunt. (Making sense so far?) So that makes Karla's mom, my great aunt, she was my Grandpa’s sister. (I say "was" cuz Gramp's dead, but in heaven.) Naturally, great aunt Fay is the Grandmother of Karla's kids, Ian, Justus, & Dunkin. Ian's 18, Justus is 16, & Dunkin is 10.

Left: Justus. Right (blue shirt): Dunkin

So, on to the story! Ian, Justus & I were able to talk quite a bit that day & found a bunch of things in common, especially Ian & me. Since I knew they were only here for the weekend & I hardly get to see them, I spent the next 2 days visiting. Afterward, Ian & I began calling/texting each other every day. Our family teased us but for me, it wasn’t ‘til the teasing stopped that I began to realize how right people were in saying I liked Ian. I thought about it, then 1 day Ian just asked me out! (Over text… kinda like he just blurted it out.) I couldn’t say yes right away, I wasn’t sure how I even felt still, so Ian let me have time to think & pray. I wasn’t gonna jump into a relationship if I wasn’t sure it’d be right cuz I know I am so close to being ready to marry. Well, on Dec. 21st, I agreed. So our relationship began over the phone, but I don’t even care. I have grown so in love with him. And a couple weeks ago he was able to come for a visit. He’d gotten laid off from work, & I was about to get home from visiting my sister in Ohio. So the Monday after my return I picked Ian up from the airport. I ran to him & gave him the biggest hug ever! Later that night, we were cuddling, & then we shared our first kiss… which was my first kiss ever!! Yes! @ 23! It was then that I knew I loved him. We had a fabulous week… I’m so glad he was able to come b4 school, yet each day makes it harder to be apart. Nevertheless, I am convinced that this will work, we will stick together & one day get married! I’m sure of it. Of course, we are being careful & are making an effort to keep God 1st in our relationship. (& we did go into it knowing that if it wouldn’t work we’d have to end it well cuz we’d see each other @ family events.) Saturday, b4 Ian left, we had our “1st” date @ Bella Notte:

 I just love looking @ this pic!

 Isn’t he handsome!!!

Overall, I have a lot to be thankful for! I would only ask that you pray for Ian & I as we continue to get to know each other that we will keep God b4 us in all things. Second, that I will get a job b4 school is over. (I’m gonna have a loan to pay off… ) Please do comment back, I’d love to hear from you all! God bless!!!!!

P.S. ~ I love you Ian!!!!!!!

A re-post: Food for thought

Quite a while ago a friend emailed this to me. Now I am re-posting it.... yeah, it's that important.

I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone?

What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?

What if we flipped through it several time a day?

What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?

What if we used it to receive messages from the text?

What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?

What if we gave it to kids as gifts?

What if we used it when we traveled?

What if we used it in case of emergency?

This is something to make you go... hmm... where is my Bible?

Oh, and one more thing. ...

Unlike our cell phone, we don't have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill.

Makes you stop and think 'where are my priorities?

And no dropped calls!

What is Christlikeness?

At the suggestion of a friend (Nathan Deere) I read Principles of Spiritual Growth, by Miles J. Stafford when I had nothing to do in the WOL Inn Bookstore. I got through it rather quickly, but slowed down long enough to write down this quote from Chapter 4: (pg 26 & 27) Stafford quotes another writer:

"Norman Douty writes: 'If I am to be like Him [God], then God in His grace must do it, and the sooner I come to recognize it the sooner I will be delivered from another form of bondage. Throw down every endeavor and say, I cannot do it, the more I try the farther I get from His likeness. What shall I do? Ah, the Holy Spirit says, You cannot do it, just withdraw, 'come out' of it. You have been in the arena, you have been endeavoring... come out and sit down, and as you sit there behold Him, just look at Him. Just be occupied with Him. Forget about trying to be like Him. Instead of letting that fill your mind and heart, let Him fill it. Just behold Him, look upon Him through the Word. Come to the Word for one purpose and that is to meet the Lord. Not to get your mind crammed full of things about the Sacred Word, but come to it to meet the Lord. Make it to be a medium, not of Biblical Scholarship, but of fellowship with Christ, behold the Lord." (Emphasis mine)

This is for all you Bible students out there, especially those @ WOLBI, this is so important. It is totally possible, and I am living proof, to study the Scriptures without changing. Me Genoita! (May it never be! God forbid it!) This quote caught my attention because it is exactly what those of us who study God's Word are so often guilty of, too many times we read it without taking the time to ponder it, meditate on it, chew it over. Students, let this not be your story. Be diligent to study the Word with sincerity, allow God to change you from the inside out. (Romans 12:1&2) Give yourself over to it. Then, and only then, can you appropriate all that God has given you... you have all you need. NO, you're not adequate to do what He's called you to, if you were, there would be no need to rely upon Him. But the truth friends, is that once you've trusted Christ, you are a new creature. The old man is done away with, crucified with Christ, now you have been raised with the new life of Christ so that it is He who works in you to will and to do His good pleasure. Do not under any circumstances allow Satan to either convince you of your own adequacy (which is a lie since you have none) or to defeat you with your own inadequacy. It is all of Christ, or all for naught. What will it be then? Will we allow God to rule our hearts and minds and conform us into the image of His Son so that we will no longer be pressed into the world's mold? If this is our choice then He must live in us which is only possible when we die to ourselves. Surrender to God then, is true freedom.

Just a few words of encouragement...

Psalm 46 (NIV)
For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. A song.

 1 God is our refuge and strength,
       an ever-present help in trouble.

 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
       and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

 3 though its waters roar and foam
       and the mountains quake with their surging.

 4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
       the holy place where the Most High dwells.

 5 God is within her, she will not fall;
       God will help her at break of day.

 6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
       he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

 7 The LORD Almighty is with us;
       the God of Jacob is our fortress.

 8 Come and see the works of the LORD,
       the desolations he has brought on the earth.

 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
       he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
       he burns the shields with fire.

 10 "Be still, and know that I am God;
       I will be exalted among the nations,
       I will be exalted in the earth."

 11 The LORD Almighty is with us;
       the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Job 23:10, "For He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold."

God is still the same now as He was then. He never changes, isn't that comforting? He will always be there for us. He will always be our Savior and Refuge and Strength. Whatever may be ailing You, He is able to understand and sympathize. Trust Him always, He knows better than you do. This is taught in the Word, His ways are higher than our ways. And as He showed me today, His plans never fail, but mine do. God is good, all the time. That's not just a catchy phrase, it's a profound truth, think about it.
